EVERYTHING'S FINE

I'm not a social butterfly. I do not enjoy meeting people. I cringed every time I had to put on a "hello" nametag at some company function I was forced to attend. Siting at the lunch table, making small talk with people I would never see again, choking down some dry chicken. Not what I call fun. I was always the first to leave, making some lame excuse like "I need to study the handout material".

I like the friends I have, and I don't need any more. I am an only child, raised in the country. I learned early on to enjoy my own company. We seldom attended church and my parents both worked so they rarely socialized. Holidays with aunts, uncles, and cousins I didn't really know, was about it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. Being an only child has its perks. I really cleaned up at Christmas. 😊

My son is always urging me to get out of my room, meet people and participate in the activities they have planned every day. I tried Bingo. No thanks. Nothing like a bunch of nearly deaf old people, with poor eyesight, trying to play bingo, to ruin a perfectly good napping day.

Luckily, my son has mostly given up trying to make me socialize. If I ever get lonely, I have the aides
leave my door open so I can hear others making noise.

I'm retired. I deserve to do what makes me happy. None of which include being social.

FRIDAY STIR FRY - Star Wars

https://www.morguefile.com

To tell the truth, I just titled this post "Star Wars" to up my page views. Ha ha, did I get you?

I have a few friends caught up in this frenzy. I just wonder if they are going through withdrawals this morning after the movie. All the hype and anticipation and now it's over. Kind of like Christmas, right? All the excitement and then wham bam thank you ma'am. All that's left is crumpled wrapping paper, empty popcorn buckets, and sticky fingers.

Makes me think of the day my book was finally published. I'd waited so long and the day had finally arrived. Although, this was the premier of my work, not some one else. And, there is at least some residual excitement like when I get a great review or somebody buys my book.

The excitement for the fans of Star Wars is now over. They have to wait for somebody to create the next movie.

I'm actually working on my next installment. Perhaps my fans are anxiously awaiting my next book. Camping out in front of the book store, peering in the windows, dressed like my characters.

One can dream.

FRIDAY STIR FRY - These Are A Few Of the Things I Love

http://morguefile.com
I decided to write about some things in life I love. Let me just preface this by saying - this is not easy for me folks. A lot of people think I am pretty negative. I tend to think I'm realistic. I hear you laughing. Shut up.

I love being off work on a work day. It feels like playing hooky from school except I'm getting paid for it.

I love how people who don't really know me at work, fear me. And the people at work that do know me, keep the secret that I'm really a nice person.

I love the fact I wrote a book and it got published.

I love the fact that when my publisher closed shop, I learned how to self-publish so my book is still out there.

I love that I've met so many supportive and wonderful friends by belonging to writer's groups in my area.

I love summer. Don't go away, please, please, I'm begging you.

I love baseball. Go Cards!

I love beer. Nothing like a cold beer, at a bar, talking to strangers, to make you feel alive.

And finally, I love my son and I can't wait to welcome his son into my unhappy life sometime around Christmas.

Please tell me what you love.

FRIDAY STIR FRY - 'Tis The Season

http://www.morguefile.com

'Tis the season for people to go a little bit crazy. You've seen it. The vacant look in the eyes or the nervous twitch. The inability to hear or comprehend what you're saying to them. The hand wringing and the pacing. Yep, it's Christmas. Traffic is snarled and so is every one's sanity. There is nothing joyous about it.

That's one reason my participation in the madness becomes less and less every year. I just refuse to be bothered. If I decorated, I'd feel obliged to dust. And that ain't gonna happen. I don't like to shop. Not crazy about the pot lucks either. Man people really like meatballs. And all the forced cheerfulness turns my stomach. "Wow, thank you so much for the lovely pot holder. It's just what I needed." Please . . .

Yes, people see me as a Grinch. Don't care. In fact, I kind of get a kick out of annoying people this time of year. Makes me joyous!

Any other Grinches out there? Come out into the open. Don't be afraid.
