FRIDAY STIR FRY: Where Is It?

I thought this picture was funny. Here is this soldier searching for something in the distance and the bird seems to be trying to help him.

What are they looking for? Perhaps the bird is just looking for fish to eat. The soldier is probably on the lookout for the enemy. Or, maybe not.

On a more spiritual level, they could both be looking for a purpose to life. Or somebody to love. Or friendship.

Maybe, like me, they are hoping to find inspiration. It's out there somewhere.

Actually, I found inspiration this morning while having breakfast with some of my writing buddies. I am thinking of writing a cozy mystery for NaNo this year. I'm a big fan of Murder She Wrote so, I thought, why not. I was having a hard time figuring out what my setting should be and they helped me decide.

I'm going to keep this inspiration to myself for now. But, stay tuned.

FRIDAY STIR FRY - These Are A Few Of the Things I Love

http://morguefile.com
I decided to write about some things in life I love. Let me just preface this by saying - this is not easy for me folks. A lot of people think I am pretty negative. I tend to think I'm realistic. I hear you laughing. Shut up.

I love being off work on a work day. It feels like playing hooky from school except I'm getting paid for it.

I love how people who don't really know me at work, fear me. And the people at work that do know me, keep the secret that I'm really a nice person.

I love the fact I wrote a book and it got published.

I love the fact that when my publisher closed shop, I learned how to self-publish so my book is still out there.

I love that I've met so many supportive and wonderful friends by belonging to writer's groups in my area.

I love summer. Don't go away, please, please, I'm begging you.

I love baseball. Go Cards!

I love beer. Nothing like a cold beer, at a bar, talking to strangers, to make you feel alive.

And finally, I love my son and I can't wait to welcome his son into my unhappy life sometime around Christmas.

Please tell me what you love.

WEDDINGS

Yep, I'm writing about weddings.
"Why?" you ask. "Are you getting married?"
"Hell, no," I reply. "But, my son is."
"Ahhh," you say and nod your head in understanding.
Even though this is his second, it is his fiance's first, so it's a big deal. Those of you who follow me on Facebook know my trials and tribulations in the pursuit of an appropriate outfit. I've finally pieced one together. Nothing fancy. Pants, shirt, jacket, flats. I pride myself for my stand on being a low maintenance kind of gal. But, people still try and gussy me up.
"Are you going to get your nails done?"
"No."
"But you have such pretty hands. You need to show them off."
"They're fine."
"I've got some jewelry you could borrow."
"No thanks."
"But . . ."
I shake my head. "I'm wearing a piece out of my mom's jewelry box."
"You need more than one piece."
"No, I don't."
Don't get me wrong. It's not that I don't want to look nice for my son's wedding. But, it's not about me and how I look. It's about two people who have found somebody to love and love them back. And in this day and age, I think we can all agree, this is a feat that is becoming rare.
So, I'll watch my son and his bride exchange vows and I'll dance at the reception and I'll smile for the pictures. And on my way home, I'll pray my son will be happy.
