FRIDAY STIR FRY - You May Not Know

Grunge Collage

Something you may not know about me. I like to scrapbook. I'm not one of those people who go to scrap-ins or whatever they're called. And I don't do it all the time. Just when I get a wild hair. And, don't tell anybody, but I'm kinda addicted to scrapbook supplies. A trip to Michaels is like crack cocaine for me.

I love looking at books about it. I get up early on Saturday mornings to watch Scrap Soup on PBS. I'm talking 7 a.m. folks. My pages never turn out that creative. But, I love trying.

So far I've done a book about a trip to Chicago with my son and his first wife; one for my son and his second wife's wedding; and currently I am working on one just about me. Places and things I've done and enjoyed. You know like concerts, sporting events, parties. Someday I want to do a family tree book.

Although my main passion is writing, scrap booking gets my creative juices flowing in a different way and actually helps with my writing. I know a lot of my writer friends like to take a walk to get a new perspective. I am limited in mobility, so I think this is the next best thing.  I take a memory walk.

What creative endeavors do you enjoy?

  1. Wanda, I did not know you liked to scrapbook. I admire that. I am so craft-challenged scrapbooking makes me break out in hives. But, that said, I am going to undertake a couple for my sons. As for what sparks me creatively? I'm so boring. I like reading, movies, friends. I used to love long walks in the woods before the woods made me sneeze and stop breathing :)

    Nice post!

    1. You are certainly not boring Barbara. One just has to read your work to know that. Good luck with your scrap booking. I'm sure your sons will appreciate it.

  2. It's good to have more than one creative outlet. Before I started writing (and having children), I loved sewing costumes. I know what you mean about a craft store being like crack. I still have quite a fabric horde in my basement.

    1. I have a friend you might want to meet. She quilts and has tons of material and many sewing machines in her basement.

    2. I'm free of that particular addiction at the moment. No need to wake a sleeping dragon!

  3. It's always great to have another hobby besides writing. You can't write 24 hours a day anyway. I like to paint plastic soldiers and I have some model trains I play with sometimes.

    1. Those both sound interesting! Do your toy soldiers ever attack the train? ;-)

  4. Taking your memory walks via scrapbooking is a great way to kind of 'write your memoirs' through photos. You're using your other artistic talents. Great idea!

    1. Thanks Skiz. Your music is another outlet for you.

  5. I admire and am a little jealous of your scrapbooking abilities. I've tried, but just don't have the patience, or talents, for it. Writing is my creative outlet. My inspiration comes from music, books, dreams, basically anywhere and everywhere.

    1. I wouldn't exactly call them 'abilities'. More like trial and error. Isn't it funny where inspiration appears!

  6. I'm way jealous of your scrapbooking. I just can't do it. I have the boxes of photos to prove it. Music is my usual go-to energizer, but hiking is my absolute favorite thing to do. Both re-energize me and I can come back to writing with a fresh perspective. Nice post and thanks for sharing a bit of your secret self!

    1. I wish I could hike but, alas, my knees say no. Do you take pictures on your hikes? That might inspire a scrap book.

  7. If I'm not writing, I'm reading, or watching HGTV.

  8. I admire those who scrapbook. It's not for me. I do like to knit. Especially in the winter. I love Christmas crafts of any kind.

    1. I crocheted when I was younger. Don't know why I gave it up.

  9. Oh, I could never scrapbook. I can't even find three-fourths of my photos or high shool yearbooks. They're here. Somewhere. I think it's cool that you do that and your family and friends will love you for it.

Me? I like to decorate and am really getting into photography, especially since I won awards with my first-ever entries! ha I love writing prompts from photos so it goes hand in hand. I also asked for a sketch book and a Drawing for Dummies book for my birthday (last year!) and plan to give that a go.

    1. Well, you know Beth, photos and scrapbooks go hand in hand.

  10. I love scrapbooking too! I use the digital books now from Shutterfly but creating something to remember all the special times with my family is so important to me!
