FRIDAY STIR FRY - This and That and The Other Thing

Still patiently waiting on line edits. In the meantime, here are just a few random thoughts that Maxine and I came up with.

Why are people in the West so afraid of tornadoes? Heck I'd be more afraid of those damn fires. At least with a tornado, you can hunker down in your home and have a fighting chance. With a fire licking your ass, not so much. And mud in this part of the country is a good time. Not something that slides down a hill and destroys you and your home. I feel so sorry for all those people who've lost everything.

Why do my clients think their problems are more important than anybody else? And no, I don't answer my phone at work very often.  - 1. I don't have time and 2. I hate being blindsided. Leave a message so I can do a little research before I call you back. And if you leave a rude message, I may not call you back at all. Or if you say the inspector was just flat wrong when he reported your house was filthy. Take a good look around and get back to me on that one.

What has happened to Memorial Day? I still decorate the graves of my family, but younguns nowadays don't show any interest at all. It's a matter of respect and remembrance, not just a fun time at the lake. Get with it young people! I'll come back and haunt you if I don't get at least a Pansie.

And some last words of wisdom from Maxine:  "At my age every hour I work should be considered overtime."

Do you have any burning questions? Maybe we can figure the answers out together.

  1. Oh Wanda, Wanda, Wanda... the more I read you the more I think we're related.

My burning question is why do people in the Midwest and California think a hurricane is the worst thing in the world that could happen to you? I always have to remind them that we get at least a week's notice before a hurricane hits land. We know almost what town will be demolished... ahead of time. We're given repeated warnings to get out of said towns... ahead of time. No surprises in a hurricane except when they choose to change direction... generally before they hit land and we get a new warning.

Why do my clients think they are the only client I have? Why is their fight with the neighbor, the ex-boy/girlfriend, mama, landlord my concern? Why do I need to know you came in to bring the ss card that I told you to bring in and will find when I check my box?

On Monday, I and my son will attend a Veteran's memorial service at the cemetery. My husband was a Vet. We've done it almost every year since he died. They hold the services here at half dozen cemeteries around the city. I'm always surprised by the turn out. Maybe 100 people at my location, old, young, and children sit in the sun for about two hours and leave flowers on the graves. There is a military band and an honor guard that gives a 21 gun salute. It is a moving ceremony where they read the names of Vets who passed away in the last 12 months. I always strongly recommend that everyone find such ceremonies in your city and attend.

And thank you, Wanda, for your service and sacrifice.

    1. Very good comments. I have a lot of cousins I've never met so we could be related.

  2. I agree about not answering the phone. I much prefer to do business by e-mail, but if I have to deal with the phone, I at least want to know the topic beforehand so I can get my thoughts/research in order.

I think tornadoes are pretty scary, though.

    1. Fire is much more scary to me. And I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my phone disdain.

  3. Anymore, I prefer texting to actual voice contact. You can answer texts on your own time and still be timely if you want. And I agree, tornadoes are a much greater problem in the Midwest than the West.
