FRIDAY STIR FRY - Musings From The Past Week

http://www.morguefile.com

RIP Robin Williams

Like most everyone else, I was shocked at the news of his death. I don't own many movies, but one I have is The Bird Cage. I laugh out loud every time I watch it. One of my favorite interviews is from Inside The Actor's Studio. Classic. Please take time to view. And pay attention to the end when he talks about heaven.

We also lost a great film actress, Lauren Bacall. Her passing signals the end of an era; when movie stars were glamorous - not attention seeking, bat shit crazy, like many today. RIP

Other musings: I've had back trouble this week, so not much writing done. I've mainly just been sitting in my recliner with a heat pad. I even had to take a sick day off work. I hardly ever do that. But, I think I'm on the mend. Knock on wood.

Plans this weekend: I've been kinda lost on where to go with my work in progress (WIP). Part of the problem is I've cobbled it together in bits and pieces. So, my plan is to sit down, read through what I have, rearrange things, and try to write it in a more linear fashion. When I get a handle on it, I'll post more excerpts.

I also have three blog stops I need to complete before they all give up on me. And with our writing conference coming up in about a month, I have stuff to do for that. Here's a link if you want to check it out.

  1. Hope your back is better soon. You want some of PeeWee's muscle relaxer pills? Seriously, you'd never know anything was wrong with him until they wear off.

I was stunned too, when I read about Robin Williams. All I could think was, 'if there was no hope for him, how is there hope for any of us?' Creative people are highly prone to depression and hiding behind a funny mask is so much easier than admitting we have problems. It's heartbreaking that there's so much pain in the world and that hope can be a fleeting thing.

Get your back better and get back on track with the book. The world is waiting for it. For real. :)

  3. Hope you're feeling better, Wanda. I think everyone was shocked about Robin Williams, although I'd always heard he had depression problems. Maybe that's why he tried SO hard to be funny all the time. Wore me out. Sometimes I couldn't stand to watch him on talk shows. Not sure he knew how to just be himself. But what a wonderful actor. Remember that song TEARS OF A CLOWN? His death reminded me of that.

  4. Thanks Shirley. Tears of a Clown is a very good analogy. How about McArthur Park?

  5. Oh, the back problem. I hear you. Is it low back pain? I use ice packs actually, on my low back. I tried heat and it simply didn't work very well. I felt ok but since I started using ice packs, I've had better results. No more than half an hour at a time. Alternate, either with heat or nothing.

I watched the Robin Williams video. Poignant in a lot of ways. What a tragic waste.

I could have written it. Take it easy. Don't sit too long. Believe it or not, it makes the back pain worse.

    1. Yeah, lower back. It comes and goes. Haven't tried ice. Thanks for the advice and I'm glad you watched the video.

  6. My husband's struggling with back trouble this week too. He shoveled too much gravel improving our landscaping. Hope you feel better soon. It's hard to think when you're in pain.
