Friday Stir Fry - Cooking
I don't cook much anymore. At least not a whole meal.
I used to cook. My family didn't starve. But, it wasn't my favorite task. We ate a lot of Hamburger Helper.
In fact, when my daughter had to make an alphabet picture book for school, she used Hamburger Helper for H.
Now days, I might stick a hamburger patty or a chicken breast in my George Foreman Grill and a potato in the microwave, but that's about it. Healthy, right?
In my defense, I am single and busy. And let's face facts, it's so much easier just to pick something up on the way home. Then, I realized last night, my fridge is starting to look like a bachelor's.
I picked up Chinese food before going home and as usual only ate about half of it. When I went to put it in the fridge, there was the exact same container sitting on the shelf. I totally forgot I had leftovers from a couple days ago. My bad. I stood back for a moment and assessed my food supply. Beer, ketchup, salad dressing (no salad mind you), a couple of expired yogurt cups and now 2 Styrofoam containers of Chinese food. Oh, and a few containers of questionable science experiments that I'm scared to open.
So, you may see me at the grocery store this weekend. Or, more than likely, at the drive-thru window of my favorite Chinese joint.

Doug just got a new grill. We've been eating a lot of grilled meat. Neither of us really likes to cook. We like the idea of cooking, but it's the clean up that turns us off. There are a lot of fast food packages in our trash. But he's really been playing with some good grill ideas. Last night we had chicken breast with lime, garlic, tomato and mushrooms. The lime/garlic combo was really excellent.
ReplyDeleteJust eat something healthy-ish looking at lunch tomorrow. It'll be fine when you pick up Chinese later. ;)
My ex used to grill a lot. I kinda miss that (not him, just the grilled stuff).
DeleteI hate to cook too. BUT that said, I pick up every cooking magazine I find. Once in awhile, I'll try a new recipe, but not nearly enough to make the purchase of all those magazines profitable. We do try to limit our "eat outs" to one night a week. Doesn't always work. But, then, I'm also a BIG fan of leftovers. And paper plates.

I'm so with you on no-cooking, Wanda! And Chinese food--my fav!Some TV dinners aren't too bad, although the salt content is terrible. This winter, I've discovered Soups and Stews. Crockpots are wonderful things :)
ReplyDeleteI don't mind cooking some days and hate it other days. Like Shirley, I buy cookbooks all the time and have even started one.
ReplyDeleteBut I'd rather eat out! Sadly, my husband rarely grills, and when he does, he says, "I made dinner!" Never mind that I came up with the menu, bought the food, made the sides and occasionally dessert! Men.
A heard a woman say once that she stopped cooking when she was 60. I never forgot that. It's several years away but something to consider!
